A Bit Of A Strange Week...

This week (or, well, last week) was a bit...odd. 10/07/2023 After a disasterous time last time out in the FRL (Formula Racing League) iMotoring Mondays at the Nordschliefe - I knew I had to make up for it this week...and make up for it did I....

By missing the race.

Work over-ran, I worked past the start and finish of the race and deep into the night and fell to second, but judging by the results, I didn't seem to miss much - another truly dominant race for Klaassens. 11/07/2023 The "Strange Week" continued into the next day as QRT had the finale of their second league ("Mixed Class Championship" For me, it was a very...frustrating race - only two other GT3's showed up - 1st and 2nd in the GT3 Championship - and I was down in 6th.

After an early spin (pushing too hard to try and keep up with the fast guys ahead) I had an incredibly lonely race - but still finished in 3rd in the championship due to nobody else showing up.

I've now finished x2 QRT Championships in a row in 3rd in the slower class.

That week in the FalkenTyre Sports Car Challenge - it was Zandvoort Club - the GT4's managing to lap in a minute - the LMP3's slightly less.

It was quite a wild race.

https://www.kabortmotorsport.com/post/zany-zandvoort-falkentyre-sportscar-challenge-race-review in the same week, the RingMeister series (car changes every week instead of track) was running the Ferrari 488 GT3 and the Nürburgring Nordschliefe (industrifahrten) and it went...absolutely disastrously.

Every time qualifying is in a separate session from the race, I usually give the race/series a couple of attempts - once with qualifying and once without.

It was rather irritating actually, as by the end of the day, I had lost -165 iRating plummeting from my 2nd highest iRating down to 27th overall - even lower than 2022's best iRating.

Race 1 (No Qualifying)

For my first race, I lined up 16th/30th - right in the meat-grinder of the pack - I knew the Ferrari and liked it a fair bit...it just turned out that the 13th...wouldn't exactly be my day.

The concept was simple - 4 laps around the Nurburgring Nordschliefe circuit (excluding the GP circuit) - but in neither race did I make a single lap.

Due to the sheer length of the lap, I towing would take 10 minutes - and that's not even taking into account repairs. Race 2 (Qualified 5th) In the second race, I hoped that being up front, I could avoid some of the mess and the "meatgrinder" behi-

No. I clipped the kerb on the inside of the second corner of the Nordschliefe (right hander - bounced off the kerb, into the wall and lost another 80 iRating. Absolute day to forget.

I'll be returning in August when the Aston makes its appearance in the Ringmeister Series - hopefully I can have a little more luck on that occasion.

On Thursday, it was Round 1 of the Evolution Sim Racing Ferrari GT3 Challenge - and after a multitude of Lap 1 incidents, I managed to launch from 28th to 20th - my team-mate finishing behind me in a Kabort 20 - 23.

Here is my absolutely cracking first lap (Race 1). Despite this entire fiasco, I still ended the lap just one position lower than where I started.

Starting lap 2, someone fell off the track at Turn 1, and by the end of the Lap, I was in 26th!

The carnage only continued as I shot up to 23rd as one car went off at the end of the Hangar Straight and the other two came together at the final corner of Lap 3.

By the end of Lap 5, I was in 21st - making a position on both of the last two laps.

Starting Lap 8, I made my last position on 20th (8th in AM class) - and I absolutely made it count.

In the second race, I started 20th and finished 23rd after a tough day in the office. a bit of being in the wrong place, wrong time - and a bit of a less chaotic race than R1 - during the pitstop window, I went from 12th to 23rd (maybe saved a bit TOO much fuel).

On Friday, I went to the mainland and saw my friends for the first time in a good few weeks - only to return late that evening as I had work the following morning.

Following this, I had my normal days of work.

17/07/2023 Jumping ahead slightly to Monday the following week - FRL (Formula Racing League) was at Spa - and for whatever reason, I just had no pace - the pack was very much quicker than me.

I fell to 3rd in the championship standings.
